==Life==
He belonged to the [[Communist Party of India (Marxist)]] and was a member of the Central Committee of the party from 2002 till death. He was also the President of the [[Students' Federation of India]] West Bengal State Committee from 1973 to 1979 and All India Joint Secretary. ==Qualifications==
Chellur was born in [[Karnataka]]. She received her [[Bachelor of Arts]] degree from Allum Sunmangalamma Women's College, [[Bellary]], and went on to earn her [[law degree]] from Renukacharya Law College, [[Bangalore]]. ==Career==
Chellur became the first female advocate to practice law in Bellary. She worked as a legal advisor, practising both civil and criminal law before the local Bellary courts.<ref name=Kerala/>

In 1988 she was appointed as District and Sessions Judge; she served as the Principal and Sessions Judge for [[Kolar]] and [[Mysore]]. In addition to these positions she was also the Chief Judge of Court of Small Causes, and Principal Judge of the Family Court at Bangalore. On 21 February 2000 she was named judge of Karnataka High Court.<ref name=Kerala/><ref name=Venkatesan/>

Chellur served as the President of the Karnataka Judicial Academy from 21 June 2008 to 25 March 2010. She was also the executive chairperson of Karnataka State Legal Service Authority. In a case in 2017 she told doctors protesting against physical assault that if they are so scared of being beaten then they should resign and stay at home. The resident doctors had gone on strike as they demanded safer working environments and wanted to be saved from these assaults. The petitioners were aghast and countered what if judges and lawyers were treated like this if the client's expectations were not met. He enrolled as an advocate in December 1983 and started practising in Thiruvananthapuram. Later, Radhakrishnan shifted to the [[High Court of Kerala]] at [[Kochi]] where he practised in [[Civil law (common law)|civil]], [[Constitutional law|constitutional]] and [[Administrative law|administrative matters]]. The Calcutta Shrievalty was established by a Royal Charter issued by [[King George III]] of Great Britain on 26 March 1774 which created the Supreme Court at Fort William in Calcutta. The charter stipulated that the sheriff would be appointed by the Governor-General in Council from a list of three residents recommended by the Supreme Court in a similar manner to the system of High Sheriffs in England.

In the early years the Sheriff of Calcutta was the executive arm of the judiciary and responsible for the provision of jurors, the safe custody of prisoners and the seizure of goods. The '''Mayor of Kolkata''' is the chief executive of the [[Kolkata Municipal Corporation]], one of the [[Civic administration of Kolkata|civic authorities]] in the [[India]]n city of [[Kolkata]]. The first [[Kolkata]] Municipal Election was held on 16 April 1924, during the time of [[British India]], under the ''Calcutta Municipal Act, 1923 - Bengal Act III of 1923''.<ref name="kmc-list" /> Mayors were elected on an annual basis. No corporation elections were held, therefore there was no mayor, from 1948 to 1952.<ref name="kmc-list" /> In 1952 further mayors were appointed on an annual basis under the ''Calcutta Municipal Act, West Bengal Act XXXIII of 1951''.<ref name="kmc-list" /> There was another break in mayoral elections from 1972 to 1985, after which mayors were elected on a five year term under the ''Calcutta Municipal Corporation Act, 1980 West Bengal Act LIX of 1980''.<ref name="kmc-list" />
