==Plot==
The story is based on a small village of [[United Kingdom|British]] ruled time. In the mid 1930s, during the [[United Kingdom|British]] rule, the small villages of India were still ruled by the kings and the kings were paying tax to the British Government.

The story revolved around a poor and small village of [[Odisha]], [[India]]. Bhagatram Gauntia, the sarapancha (Village Head) of the village, fondly called ''Sala Budha'' (The Stupid Old Man) by the villagers, is an honest and kind person and takes good care of his subjects. Due to drought, people of the village were unable to pay the tax for five years and being the village head Bhagatram Gauntia couldn't force anyone to pay it due to his kindness. And so is the village head too couldn't pay the tax to the king and was living in a threat to lose his land and leadership.
He has a strong belief in God and he tries his best to help them to survive from the drought and staying them together. He says god is never wrong and everything's going to be fine. Meanwhile some villagers who didn't want him to remain as village head meet the king and provoke against him. As a result, the king decides to visit the village and snatch Bhagatram gauntia's land, leadership(as the village head). The king visits the place and at the end of the movie king comes to know the truth and praises him.

The way scenes were captured will not let you feel it is a movie of 21st century and will take you back to the mid 19th century. After returning to [[Odisha]], he devoted himself to directing plays.

In 1977, Mohanty started upon his career in the Oriya film industry with the film ''Chilika Tire'' which won the National Award for that year. Initially he opted mostly for negative roles. ''[[Naga Phasa]], Samay Bada Balaban, Danda Balunga, Sahari Bagha, Chaka Bhaunri'' and ''Chaka Akhi Sabu Dekhuchi'' are some of his most notable films as this type of character. He acted in almost every manner of roles available to him; ranging from hero, villain, comedian, to character roles etc. In every field he left his incomparable mark. Mohanty's other notable films include; ''Arati'' (1981), ''Mamata Mage Mula'' (1985), ''Aei Aama Sansara'' (1986), ''Aama Ghara Aama Sansara'' (1991), ''Ki Heba Sua Posile'', ''Bhisma Pratigya'' (1993), ''Bhai Hela Bhagari'' (1994), ''[[Suna Panjuri]]'', ''Laxman Rekha'', ''Rakhi Bhijigala Akhi Luhare'' and ''I Love My India''.

''Jugechha'', a drama troupe which he formed in his native place of [[Baripada]] was a well-known troupe and staged plays in different parts of [[Odisha|Orissa]] as well as throughout the country.

Some of his television serials aired on [[Doordarshan]] include; ''Asara Aloka'', ''Sri Jagannath'', ''Subhadra'', ''Sara Akasa'', ''Samaya Chaka'', ''Sakalara Apekhya Re'', ''Nadekhile Loka Dekhe'', ''Mahayagyan'' and ''Bidhatara Khela''.

==Political career==
Mohanty joined [[Indian National Congress]] on 27 February 2014. He stood for election to become a member of Parliament from [[Bhubaneswar (Lok Sabha constituency)|Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha]] seat in [[2014 Indian general elections]] and was defeated.
