==Location==
Ghess is situated 43 km from the district headquarters, [[Bargarh]], and 18 km from Sohela.

==History==
The place played an important role in the [[India's First War of Independence (term)|First War of Independence]] when the [[Zamindar]] of Ghess, [[Madho Singh (Ghess)|Madho Singh]], fought against the [[British Raj|British]] along with [[Veer Surendra Sai]], the King of [[Sambalpur]].<ref>{{cite book|title=Orissa Review|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=0ApWAAAAYAAJ|date=August 1986|publisher=Home Department, Government of Orissa|page=61}}</ref><ref name="Chavan1973" />{{rp|83}} All male members of the Zamindar family were hanged or jailed or shot by the British.
