== Plot ==
=== 1971 ===
The young [[Non-resident Indian and person of Indian origin|NRI]] Virendra Pratap Singh, also known as Viren ([[Anil Kapoor]]), comes to his homeland in [[Rajasthan]], [[India]] for the first time where he is greeted by his former governess Durgadevi, affectionately called Dai Jaa ([[Waheeda Rehman]]). His late parents had migrated to [[London]], [[United Kingdom]] long before he was born. Gobsmacked by the hot weather conditions and the traditional customs of the region, Viren stumbles upon the beautiful Pallavi ([[Sridevi]]) and falls in love with her almost instantly. Pallavi is the daughter of wealthy businessman Kothiwale Thakur ([[Manohar Singh]]), who had helped Viren's late father when his business was suffering. Viren and Pallavi become friends. However, upon noticing Viren's feelings for Pallavi, Dai Jaa indicates that Pallavi is eight years older than him, which still does not bother Viren.

After losing a civil legal dispute involving his property, the devastated Kothiwale Thakur dies of a heart attack. Pallavi goes into depression. Viren comes to console her at Kothiwale Thakur's mourning ceremony, but is shocked to find her run towards her long-time boyfriend Siddharth Kumar Bhatnagar (Deepak Malhotra),
who is an airplane pilot. Viren is heartbroken, but reluctantly arranges Pallavi and Siddharth's wedding with a heavy heart and moves back to London without letting Pallavi know of his true emotions. However, in a cruel twist of fate, Viren flies down to India after Dai Jaa gives him the news of both Siddharth and the pregnant Pallavi having perished in a major car accident, but not before the gravely injured Pallavi gives birth to their surviving daughter, Pooja. Viren and Dai Jaa lament the tragic losses of Pallavi and Siddharth and a grief-stricken Viren entrusts Dai Jaa in the upbringing of the newborn Pooja.

20 years later, the now middle-aged Viren still finds it difficult to come to terms and has been visiting Rajasthan every year in the two decades for Siddharth and Pallavi's death anniversary. Hoeven, he has avoided meeting Pooja on her birthday because she was born the same day Pallavi died and the trauma and the pain of Pallavi's death is still fresh in his mind. However, Viren now comes back to India this year for Siddharth and Pallavi's twentieth death anniversary and is shocked to see the now grown-up Pooja (also [[Sridevi]]) a spitting image of Pallavi herself on her twentieth birthday. Viren feels that destiny is playing a cruel game with him but still invites Pooja and Dai Jaa to his residence in London. In London, Viren's childhood friend Prem Anand ([[Anupam Kher]]) is aware that Viren's heart still yearns for Pallavi, while Viren is still trying to engage himself in other works but cannot forget Pallavi.

Moreover, Anita Malhotra (Dippy Sagoo) is a girl working with Viren and is deeply in love with him. She is also aware of Viren's love for Pallavi and constantly tries to win his attention. During Pooja and Dai Jaa's visit to London, Anita meets Pooja and realizes how she must be a constant reminder of Pallavi to Viren. Over a period of time, Pooja becomes possessive about Viren so Anita tries to show the truth and make her understand that she is wrong. Pooja retorts back and tells Anita that if she herself is not related to Viren, Anita is not related to him either. Anita becomes frustrated and blasts out at Viren for his feelings for Pooja, telling him that he should be ashamed of having feelings for a considerably younger woman, just because she resembles her late mother whom he loved. Meanwhile, Prem understands how much Pooja is attached to Viren since childhood, but is skeptical since Viren is still living in the past in the memories of Pallavi.

However, things take a drastic turn when Pooja comes across Pallavi's pencil sketch made by Viren and completely misunderstands it to be her own when it is actually of her mother. She confesses her love for Viren and confronts him over the sketch, but a furious Viren rebuffs Pooja and reveals that he actually loved her late mother who resembled her. A shattered and humiliated Pooja tells Dai Jaa that she wants to return to India. After Pooja and Dai Jaa's departure from London, Prem strongly advises a confused Viren to confront his feelings for Pooja, pointing out the huge difference between Pallavi and Pooja. Back home, Dai Jaa persuades Pooja to get married but she agrees on one condition that Viren must get married first. When Dai Jaa calls to let Viren know that Pooja has agreed to marry once Viren ties the knot, Viren agrees to marry Anita. Upon learning this, Pooja tells Dai Jaa that she never wants to get married.

Back in London, Viren, Prem and Anita are wondering why Dai Jaa is delaying her visit for Viren and Anita's wedding. Thus, Viren and Prem decide to travel to India and give Dai Jaa a surprise. Upon arriving, Viren and Prem are shocked to learn from Dai Jaa that Pooja has vowed never to marry. The climax shows a heartbroken Pooja narrating a tragic folk tale in a village show when all of a sudden, she becomes very excited and happy to notice Viren in the audience and lies to him about already having gotten married. However, Viren confronts Pooja for hiding the truth about her marriage from him, and reveals that he actually never wanted to marry Anita, since he finally realized that he is genuinely in love with Pooja and not Pallavi anymore, who in fact had never had romantic feelings towards him. With neither of them having gotten married, Viren and Pooja are now free to be together.

Gobsmacked by the hot weather conditions and the traditional customs of the region, Viren stumbles upon the beautiful Pallavi ([[Sridevi]]) and falls in love with her almost instantly. Pallavi is the daughter of wealthy businessman Kothiwale Thakur ([[Manohar Singh]]), who had helped Viren's late father when his business was suffering. Viren and Pallavi become friends. However, upon noticing Viren's feelings for Pallavi, Dai Jaa indicates that Pallavi is eight years older than him, which still does not bother Viren.

After losing a civil legal dispute involving his property, the devastated Kothiwale Thakur dies of a heart attack. Pallavi goes into depression. 20 years later, the now middle-aged Viren still finds it difficult to come to terms and has been visiting Rajasthan every year in the two decades for Siddharth and Pallavi's death anniversary. Hoeven, he has avoided meeting Pooja on her birthday because she was born the same day Pallavi died and the trauma and the pain of Pallavi's death is still fresh in his mind. However, Viren now comes back to India this year for Siddharth and Pallavi's twentieth death anniversary and is shocked to see the now grown-up Pooja (also [[Sridevi]]) a spitting image of Pallavi herself on her twentieth birthday. Viren feels that destiny is playing a cruel game with him but still invites Pooja and Dai Jaa to his residence in London. In London, Viren's childhood friend Prem Anand ([[Anupam Kher]]) is aware that Viren's heart still yearns for Pallavi, while Viren is still trying to engage himself in other works but cannot forget Pallavi.

Moreover, Anita Malhotra (Dippy Sagoo) is a girl working with Viren and is deeply in love with him. She is also aware of Viren's love for Pallavi and constantly tries to win his attention. During Pooja and Dai Jaa's visit to London, Anita meets Pooja and realizes how she must be a constant reminder of Pallavi to Viren. Over a period of time, Pooja becomes possessive about Viren so Anita tries to show the truth and make her understand that she is wrong. Pooja retorts back and tells Anita that if she herself is not related to Viren, Anita is not related to him either. Anita becomes frustrated and blasts out at Viren for his feelings for Pooja, telling him that he should be ashamed of having feelings for a considerably younger woman, just because she resembles her late mother whom he loved. Meanwhile, Prem understands how much Pooja is attached to Viren since childhood, but is skeptical since Viren is still living in the past in the memories of Pallavi.

However, things take a drastic turn when Pooja comes across Pallavi's pencil sketch made by Viren and completely misunderstands it to be her own when it is actually of her mother. She confesses her love for Viren and confronts him over the sketch, but a furious Viren rebuffs Pooja and reveals that he actually loved her late mother who resembled her. A shattered and humiliated Pooja tells Dai Jaa that she wants to return to India. After Pooja and Dai Jaa's departure from London, Prem strongly advises a confused Viren to confront his feelings for Pooja, pointing out the huge difference between Pallavi and Pooja. Back home, Dai Jaa persuades Pooja to get married but she agrees on one condition that Viren must get married first. When Dai Jaa calls to let Viren know that Pooja has agreed to marry once Viren ties the knot, Viren agrees to marry Anita. Upon learning this, Pooja tells Dai Jaa that she never wants to get married.

Back in London, Viren, Prem and Anita are wondering why Dai Jaa is delaying her visit for Viren and Anita's wedding. Thus, Viren and Prem decide to travel to India and give Dai Jaa a surprise. Upon arriving, Viren and Prem are shocked to learn from Dai Jaa that Pooja has vowed never to marry. The climax shows a heartbroken Pooja narrating a tragic folk tale in a village show when all of a sudden, she becomes very excited and happy to notice Viren in the audience and lies to him about already having gotten married. However, Viren confronts Pooja for hiding the truth about her marriage from him, and reveals that he actually never wanted to marry Anita, since he finally realized that he is genuinely in love with Pooja and not Pallavi anymore, who in fact had never had romantic feelings towards him. With neither of them having gotten married, Viren and Pooja are now free to be together.

Over a period of time, Pooja becomes possessive about Viren so Anita tries to show the truth and make her understand that she is wrong. Pooja retorts back and tells Anita that if she herself is not related to Viren, Anita is not related to him either. Anita becomes frustrated and blasts out at Viren for his feelings for Pooja, telling him that he should be ashamed of having feelings for a considerably younger woman, just because she resembles her late mother whom he loved. Meanwhile, Prem understands how much Pooja is attached to Viren since childhood, but is skeptical since Viren is still living in the past in the memories of Pallavi.

However, things take a drastic turn when Pooja comes across Pallavi's pencil sketch made by Viren and completely misunderstands it to be her own when it is actually of her mother. She confesses her love for Viren and confronts him over the sketch, but a furious Viren rebuffs Pooja and reveals that he actually loved her late mother who resembled her. A shattered and humiliated Pooja tells Dai Jaa that she wants to return to India. After Pooja and Dai Jaa's departure from London, Prem strongly advises a confused Viren to confront his feelings for Pooja, pointing out the huge difference between Pallavi and Pooja. Back home, Dai Jaa persuades Pooja to get married but she agrees on one condition that Viren must get married first. When Dai Jaa calls to let Viren know that Pooja has agreed to marry once Viren ties the knot, Viren agrees to marry Anita. Upon learning this, Pooja tells Dai Jaa that she never wants to get married.

Back in London, Viren, Prem and Anita are wondering why Dai Jaa is delaying her visit for Viren and Anita's wedding. Thus, Viren and Prem decide to travel to India and give Dai Jaa a surprise. Upon arriving, Viren and Prem are shocked to learn from Dai Jaa that Pooja has vowed never to marry. The climax shows a heartbroken Pooja narrating a tragic folk tale in a village show when all of a sudden, she becomes very excited and happy to notice Viren in the audience and lies to him about already having gotten married. However, Viren confronts Pooja for hiding the truth about her marriage from him, and reveals that he actually never wanted to marry Anita, since he finally realized that he is genuinely in love with Pooja and not Pallavi anymore, who in fact had never had romantic feelings towards him. == Synopsis ==

According to her, a girl gets only one chance to change her name and condition in life, and that is after her marriage. Damodar works as a cook for Mr. Laxmidhar Kuber ([[Nilu Phule]]), a renowned industrialist, whose son Naren (Sachin Pilgaonkar) has just returned from abroad after completing his studies. At a party thrown by Mr. Kuber for his son's homecoming, Naren tells his friends his views on marriage. His only condition is that he will marry a young widow, which is overheard by Shaku.

With the help of Damodar's friend Tatya Malvankar ([[Macchindra Kambli]]), Shaku poses as a young widow named Saudamini and enters the Kuber residence. Using her theatrical antics, she soon wins over the hearts of Mrs. Kuber (Shubha Khote) and Naren, who ask her to live in the house. As days go by, Naren falls in love with her but Mr. Kuber asks for Saudamini's late husband's photograph. Again with the help of Tatya Malvankar, Shaku shows them the photograph of a man dressed as a military officer and tells his name as Captain Bajirao Rangade.

In the parallel plot, Dinkar Luktuke ([[Ashok Saraf]]) is a clerk working for Mr. Kuber's close friend Mr. Gajanan Deshmukh ([[Jayram Kulkarni|Jairam Kulkarni]]), while he is secretly in love with his employer's daughter Hema ([[Kishori Shahane]]). One day, when Mr. Kuber visits Mr. Deshmukh at his office, he bumps into Luktuke whom he recognizes as the "late Captain Bajirao Rangade" in the photograph. A plan begins to take shape in Mr. Kuber's mind.

== Plot ==
Shaku ([[Supriya Pilgaonkar]]) is a girl orphaned by fate living in poverty with her maternal uncle Damodar (Suhas Bhalekar), who has raised her all by himself as a single relative. She is a talented actress who acts in the dramas taking place in their locality. Shaku's sole dream is to marry a millionaire as according to her, a girl gets only one chance to change her name and condition in life, and that is after her marriage. Damodar works as a servant for the wealthy industrialist Laxmidhar Kuber ([[Nilu Phule]]) and his understanding wife Mrs. Kuber (Shubha Khote) whose son Narendra Kuber, also known as Naren (Sachin Pilgaonkar), has just returned from the US after his graduation. Laxmidhar and Mrs. Kuber throw a grand party at their house for Naren's homecoming, where Shaku accompanies Damodar to assist him in the chores.

While there, Shaku overhears Naren sharing his views about marriage with his friends, when he expresses his desire of marrying only a widow for not having the ability to buy enough time to spend with his wife. Having fallen in love with Naren, Shaku vows to marry only him at any cost after realising that he is the heir to the infinity of wealth at his house. Using her theatrical antics with the help of her costume lender Tatya Malvankar ([[Macchindra Kambli]]), she creates a sequence of events that allows her to enter the Kuber residence. Further, Shaku fools Naren and his parents that she is a homeless widow named "Saudamini" and that she has gone into a state of sorrow since her husband's sad demise.

Therefore, Shaku is quickly accepted by the Kuber family after her pretence of having developed mental shock. Soon, she wins over the hearts of Naren and Mrs. Kuber who ask her to stay for some more time. While seeking refuge in the Kubers' house, Shaku tries to influence Naren by shedding unreal tears in the memory of her deceased husband. This prompts Naren to take Saudamini for outings to help her recover from the loss of her husband. Slowly, Naren realises that he has fallen in love with Saudamini and goes on to propose marriage to her. Feeling that she has finally accomplished her mission, Shaku accepts his marriage proposal after showing some hesitation.

However, Naren faces objection from Laxmidhar who demands information about Saudamini's past. Nevertheless, Shaku lies to the Kubers that her husband was a military officer named "Captain Bajirao Rangade", and that he died after getting hit by a soda water bottle during a riot. When asked for photograph, Tatya provides Shaku with the photograph of an aspiring drama actor ([[Ashok Saraf]]) dressed in a military uniform. Eventually, Laxmidhar agrees for Naren and Saudamini's marriage despite his wish to marry off his son to Hema ([[Kishori Shahane]]), the daughter of his close friend Deshmukh ([[Jayram Kulkarni|Jairam Kulkarni]]) who is an equally wealthier businessman.

Meanwhile, it is revealed that the aspiring drama actor whose photograph was provided by Tatya is Dinkar Luktuke, a homeless clerk at Deshmukh's office who is secretly having a love affair with Hema. Shortly, things take a turn when Laxmidhar visits Deshmukh's office and surprisingly bumps into Luktuke. Laxmidhar recognizes him from the photograph of Saudamini's late husband and grows suspicious of her true intentions. Wanting to become sure of Saudamini's deception, Laxmidhar instructs Luktuke to perform a mysterious drama at his house in exchange of a well-furnished, four-bedroom plot and 24/7 water supply for his living.

Acting upon Laxmidhar's instructions, Luktuke shockingly poses as "Captain Bajirao Rangade" and enters the Kuber residence as Saudamini's "alive" husband, who has returned to his wife after recovering from a coma. Shaku immediately denies any relation with Captain Rangade and lies that her husband was a left-hander. However, her plan backfires as Luktuke outsmarts her and confesses about being a left-hander in the past. To make matters worse, it turns out that Luktuke was born with six toes on his left foot, while Shaku had fooled the Kuber family with the same identification of her husband.

Eventually, Mrs. Kuber still does not accept Captain Rangade as Saudamini's husband while a distressed Naren faces a dilemma. In last hopes of regaining his relationship with Saudamini, he bribes Captain Rangade and tries to influence him to give her a divorce. However, Luktuke stands firm by citing his undying affection to his wife. Despite this, Hema spots Luktuke with Naren at a restaurant and follows him, therefore learning the truth. After the two come face-to-face, a stunned Luktuke unwillingly refuses to go with Hema, which provokes her into pretending to be in love with Naren to make him jealous.

That night, Luktuke returns home drunk and criticises Laxmidhar in front of Mrs. Kuber for breaking off his relationship with Hema. Mrs. Kuber begins to grow suspicious of Captain Rangade but Laxmidhar diverts her thinking. Meanwhile, Naren comes up with an idea and asks Saudamini to call in any of her relative who can testify Captain Rangade being an imposter. Seizing this opportunity, Shaku approaches Tatya and asks him to arrive at the Kuber residence as her relative. Due to the fact that Naren has seen him in the beginning of their theatrical antics, Tatya instructs his shop assistant Madhya (Madhu Apte) to assume his identity and claim that Captain Rangade is not her husband.

The next day, Tatya himself arrives at Naren's house in disguise as Madhya does not make it to his shop on time. He claims to have attended Saudamini's wedding and testifies that Captain Rangade cannot be her husband. In the end, Shaku concludes her arguments and has seemingly succeeded in convincing the Kuber family of Captain Rangade's pretence. However, the tale is twisted as Madhya goes on to arrive at the scene as "Tatya" and he too claims that Captain Rangade is not her husband. At this point, Shaku's cover is blown with the conception of faking her husband's death in hopes to marrying Naren for money.

On this ground, Laxmidhar expels Tatya and Madhya from the house while an emotionally upset Naren rants at Saudamini in a harsh manner. Despite this, Laxmidhar intervenes with Mrs. Kuber and pretends to forgive Saudamini for her misdeeds, before politely handing over all his wealth and power to her with a car as well as a house owned by him in [[Lonavala]] and asks her to surrender Naren to them. Seeing no other way out, Shaku mysteriously accepts Rangade as her husband and agrees to go with him but in the climax, shockingly ends up shooting him down fatally with the resolve to sacrifice herself for all her [[karma]] till now.

In guilt and remorse, Shaku confesses about her true identity before Naren and that she realised after entering the Kubers' house that there is nothing more important than love and affection, which she had developed for him and for the togetherness with the Kuber family. She also profusely thanks the Kubers for giving her the love of a family which life had denied to her and apologises to them for what everything cost them. Therefore, Shaku begs Laxmidhar to have her hanged to death by the police for cheating and even committing the murder of the fake Rangade. However, Laxmidhar amusingly reveals that he had already planted harmless [[ammunition]] in the gun and thus Luktuke turns out to be alive.

Moreover, Laxmidhar also reveals that he had only sent Luktuke to the residence as Captain Rangade and was testing Shaku's love for Naren, since he had already discovered her true identity from Damodar who refused to cheat or lie to the family. Upon learning this, Naren realises his folly and reciprocates Shaku's feelings for him with Laxmidhar and Mrs. Kuber's consent for marriage. At the same time, Hema and Deshmukh also arrive at Laxmidhar's house and Luktuke's cheating is exposed before them. A furious Deshmukh berates Luktuke for his negligence towards work along with Hema as Naren, Shaku, Laxmidhar, Mrs. Kuber and Damodar share a laughter at his embarrassment.

Released in [[India]] on 6 December 1974, the film stars [[Amitabh Bachchan]], Parveen Babi and [[Pran]] in lead roles and [[Farida Jalal]], [[Sulochana Latkar]], [[Satyen Kappu]], [[Iftekhar]], [[Jagdish Raj]] and [[Rehman (actor)|Rehman]] in supporting roles.

The movie is loosely inspired by two [[English]] movies of 1970 - ''Zig Zag'' and ''Cold Sweat''. The film was later remade in [[Telugu language|Telugu]] by director K. Raghavendra Rao as ''Raja'' (1976) starring Shobhan Babu and [[Jayasudha]]. It was also remade in [[Tamil language|Tamil]] as [[Naan Vazhavaippen]] (1979) with Sivaji Ganeshan and [[K. R. == Plot ==
Ravi Khanna ([[Amitabh Bachchan]]) is a middle-class travel agent living with his ageing mother ([[Sulochana Latkar]]), wheelchair-bound sister Renu ([[Farida Jalal]]) and young brother Billu (Alankar Joshi), and is also due to get married with his girlfriend Neela (Parveen Babi). One rainy night, one of his clients, the wealthy Surendra Sinha ([[Rehman (actor)|Rehman]]), visits Ravi's travel agency to pick up the tickets that have been reserved for him when Ravi notices a large [[emerald]] ring on his finger as Surendra Sinha impatiently taps on the counter. After leaving the premises, Surendra Sinha offers Ravi a lift in his car till the crossroads near Ravi's house as there is not a single taxi to be seen. Some time later, two detectives, CID Inspector Khurana ([[Iftekhar]]) and Inspector Kulkarni ([[Jagdish Raj]]), come to interrogate Ravi at the travel agency as Surendra Sinha was apparently abducted that night and his dead body was later shockingly recovered from a manhole. Ravi is innocent, but nervous as Inspector Khurana and Inspector Kulkarni are taking a keen interest in him since he is the last known person to have seen Surendra Sinha. The stress seems to be triggering regular headache attacks and Ravi goes to the doctor where he is sent for a brain X-Ray. The shocking diagnosis is far more serious than tension as Ravi has a brain tumour that needs to be removed, while there is also no guarantee that he will not be blind or even paraplegic as the side-effects of the brain surgery. Ravi is aghast as he is the sole provider to his family and cannot contemplate a life where he becomes a dependent so he leaves without making a decision when the choices are death and a life worse than death.

While he is aware of the fact that his brain tumour is set to consume him in six months, Ravi gets the interesting news of Surendra Sinha's grieving younger brother Narendra Sinha ([[Satyen Kappu]]) having declared a handsome reward of five [[lakh]] [[Indian rupee|rupees]] for any information about his brother's killer. In an attempt to secure his family's future, Ravi anonymously telephones Inspector Khurana at the police station and poses as an informer about Surendra Sinha's murder in a scheme to frame "himself" as the killer and collect the reward money for his family since he has nothing to lose and is going to die in six months anyway. Narendra Sinha is ready to pay out the reward after learning about the anonymous informer from Inspector Khurana. Acting upon the received information, Inspector Khurana and Inspector Kulkarni recover the evidence that has been created against himself by Ravi, who is soon arrested by them for the murder of Surendra Sinha and is sentenced to death by the [[Supreme Court of India]] for the crime, much to the consternation of his family and that of Neela. While Neela and Ravi's mother try to make some sense of Ravi's confession, also go to Narendra Sinha to beg for clemency, Ravi is in prison awaiting his execution and his another headache attack lands him up at the hospital by Inspector Khurana and Inspector Kulkarni, where Ravi miraculously undergoes a successful brain surgery with no side-effects but is now a convicted criminal of abduction, ransom and murder.

Well-aware of having condemned himself to be hung for a murder he did not commit, a regretful Ravi realises that now the only way for him to escape the consequences of his ill-advised actions is to find the real murderer of Surendra Sinha. In order to save himself from going to the gallows, Ravi manages to escape from the hospital in search of the real killer and is aided by Neela in his pursuit. As Ravi investigates the significant large emerald ring of Surendra Sinha that could lead back to the killer, he has some lucky breaks and benefits from his own logical procedural thinking and one of them is the arrival of Michael D'Souza ([[Pran]]), a kind-hearted and happy-go-lucky professional thief. Learning of Ravi's plight, Michael pledges to help him nab the real culprit after recalling that on the fateful rainy night, he had grabbed the same costly ring from the driver of a car, unmindful of the fact that it belonged to the dead Surendra Sinha on the backseat. Despite Michael's endeavour to identify the murderer, his friend Prakash ([[Mac Mohan]]), who is a black market dealer, gives Michael the advice to play a double game with Ravi by selling him out to Narendra Sinha as guilty of Surendra Sinha's murder in exchange of the reward money of five lakh rupees. Michael now takes Prakash's advice and visits Narendra Sinha's house to strike a deal regarding the capture of Ravi. While there, Michael comes face-to-face with Narendra Sinha, and is shocked to recognize him as the driver of the car, whom he had grabbed Surendra Sinha's costly ring from.

Realising that the killer of Surendra Sinha is none other than his own brother Narendra Sinha, Michael claims to be knowing his real intentions when Narendra Sinha admits that Surendra Sinha's wife Mona (Ashoo) had an extramarital affair with him which Surendra Sinha discovered on the rainy night and disowned him as his brother. An offended Narendra Sinha immediately retaliated by smashing glass bottles on the head of Surendra Sinha, killing him. While he was taking Surendra Sinha's dead body away from his car for its disposal, Michael apprehended Narendra Sinha and forced him to hand him over the ring. After successfully throwing Surendra Sinha's dead body inside the manhole, Narendra Sinha faked his brother's abduction before the police and announced the five lakh rupees reward in order to cover up his crime. Upon learning the truth, Michael sets up a meeting point with Narendra Sinha where he will hand over Ravi to him in exchange of the "reward" money. Before the meeting, Michael deliberately visits Ravi's house to find out the reason behind his unusual actions, where he has a change of heart instead on witnessing Renu lament Ravi's tragic separation from the family, thus taking an oath of reuniting Ravi with his family.

In an abandoned, ramshackle wooden cottage by the riverside on the Kasara hills, Ravi and Neela meet up with Michael to learn the identity of the real killer, when they are horrified to witness Narendra Sinha shooting Michael thrice in his stomach with the fear of the latter exposing his crime. Nevertheless, a gravely injured Michael holds Narendra Sinha at gunpoint in the crossfire and confesses about his real intentions to Ravi, who leaves Neela to hold the fort and drives desperately to get a doctor back in time for Michael's treatment. On his way back with a doctor, Ravi also leads Inspector Kulkarni and the police to the scene and manages to get hold of Narendra Sinha while Michael is attended by Neela, the doctor and the police. With his last breath, Michael gives his testimony of Ravi's innocence and Narendra Sinha's real intentions to Inspector Kulkarni. As a result, Narendra Sinha is arrested and charged for both Surendra Sinha and Michael's murders while all charges against Ravi are dropped by Inspector Kulkarni. The film ends with the funeral of Michael when his fulfilled oath of reuniting Ravi with his family is recalled.
