According to historical evidence, an ancient name of Gangapur was Lalpura, Gangapur is named after the death of Maharani Ganga Bai Scindia. [H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Gangabai Raje Sahib Scindia (d. from illness, at Gangapur, May 1792 <ref>https://www.facebook.com/RoyalIndiaUnited/photos/?tab=album&album_id=579281972095546</ref> A very beautiful temple with great architecture is situated here called "Temple of Maharani Ganga Bai Sahib." Maharani came here to solve a dispute between her brother [not real] Maharana Mewar and Devgarh Rao. After the settlement of the conflict, she was going back to Gwalior in the way she died at village LALPURA. Maharana Mewar gifted Lalpura & 12 other villages of Mewar to Gwalior state in memory of Gangabai.
