[[Gordhandas Bhagwandas Narottamdas]], a physician and social worker, proposed the Harkisan Narottamdas Hospital (also spelled Hurkisondas Nurrotumdas Hospital) to his adoptive mother Zaverben and his aunt Mankunwar, wife of deceased Harkisan Narottamdas Sheth. They agreed and donated the bungalow and funds. In 1918, the foundation of hospital was laid by the [[Marie Freeman-Thomas, Marchioness of Willingdon|Lady Willingdon]]. In 1925, the construction was completed and inaugurated by [[Leslie Wilson (politician)|Lesli Wilson]], the [[Governor of Bombay]]. The hospital was taken over by the [[Reliance Foundation]] in 2006. The 7-floor old heritage building and the 22-floor building behind it were renovated starting 2011. The Tower is a newly constructed building, housing Emergency Medical Services, the Out-Patient Department, In-Patient Services, Diagnostics, Operation Theatre Complex, Executive Health Check, and separate floors for Day Care,  Woman &amp;amp; Child Health. It is proposed to have an entire floor for free and subsidised in-patient beds. Located across two floors, the Intensive Critical Care Unit (ICU) has beds configured to the single-room concept. The hospital offers healthcare facilities pertaining to six key areas: [[Cardiology|Cardiac Sciences]], Nephro-Urology, [[Neuroscience|Neuro Sciences]], [[Oncology]], [[Orthopedic surgery|Orthopaedics]] &amp;amp; Spine and Woman &amp;amp; Child Health, Over 258 consultants in various areas of specialization drive and manage the activities. They are assisted by a staff of 1,000, including paramedical and other support.
