&#039;&#039;&#039;Lepakshi&#039;&#039;&#039; is a village in the [[Anantapur District]] of [[Andhra Pradesh]], [[India]].&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;{{cite web|title=Anantapur District Mandals|url=http://censusindia.gov.in/2011census/maps/atlas/28part32.pdf|publisher=Census of India|accessdate=6 June 2017|pages=430}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; It is located {{convert|15|km|miles|abbr=on}} east of [[Hindupur]] and approximately {{convert|120|km|mi|abbr=on}} north of [[Bangalore]]. It lies very close to border of Karnataka.Lepakshi is culturally and archaeologically significant as it is the location of shrines dedicated to [[Shiva]], [[Vishnu]] and [[Virabhadra]] which were built during the [[Vijayanagara Empire]] period (1336–1646). The temples are the location of mural paintings of the Vijayanagara kings and [[kannada script|kannada]] inscriptions. Near the temple complex is a large granite [[Nandi bull]]. On a hillock known as &#039;&#039;Kurma Saila&#039;&#039;, &amp;quot;tortoise shaped hill&amp;quot;, are other temples to Papanatheswara, Raghunatha, [[Rama|Srirama]], and [[Durga]].{{cn|date=February 2017}} Lepakshi is also famous for puppet show based on [[Hindu mythology]]. The [[Veerabhadra temple (Lepakshi)|Veerabhadra temple]] of Lepakshi, which was built by the brothers Viranna and Virupanna, is dedicated to Veerabhadra. It is an example of the [[Vijayanagara architecture|Vijayanagara architectural style]].&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;[http://www.anantapur.com/travel/lepakshi.html &#039;&#039;Lepakshi&#039;&#039;] Accessed 18 August 2006.&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; Points of interest in the temple include a rock chain, Vastu Purusha, the Padmini race lady, the hanging pillar, Durga Paadam, the eyes of Virupaksha and Lepakshi saree designs.
