== History ==
In 1992-93, the first round of the National Family Health Survey was conducted in three phases.<ref name=":0">{{Cite web|title=India - National Family Health Survey 1992-1993|url=https://microdata.worldbank.org/index.php/catalog/1404#:~:text=The%20main%20objective%20of%20the,April%201992%20to%20September%201993.|access-date=2021-03-13|website=microdata.worldbank.org}}</ref> The main objective of the survey was to collect reliable and up-to-date information on [[fertility]], [[Family planning in India|family planning]], [[mortality rate|mortality]], and [[maternal]] & [[child health]]. Subsequently, four other rounds conducted between 1998 to 2015.

The latest being NFHS 5 that started in 2019, however, was stalled amid the [[COVID-19 pandemic in India|COVID-19]] associated [[COVID-19 lockdown in India|lockdown]].
