==Plot==
Professor Kurian Fernandez, a convict, escapes from jail along with Raghu, his cell mate. After a failed attempt to chase and nab the duo, the officials draw up several plans to capture both. Police authorities strongly feel that Fernandez will land up in [[Bangalore]] and may try to meet up with his only daughter. Unnikrishnan and K. Purushothaman Nair, two inspectors from [[Kerala Police]], are sent to Bangalore to follow the activities of Gaadha, daughter of Fernandez.

Upon reaching Bangalore, Unnikrishnan meets Peter, his college mate, who is also now an inspector with [[Karnataka Police]]. Unnikrishnan and Peter make up a team and sideline Purushothaman Nair, who struggles hard to cope up with [[Kannada]] language. The police team stays at a room just opposite to where Gaadha stays as a paying guest. Gaadha, working at an advertisement agency as a copy writer is staying along with aunt Maggie, who is constantly in a fight with her son. Unnikrishnan and Peter, who are born flirts, are more interested in drinking and playing cards than investigating. K. P. Nair tries to report this to the authorities, but fails in getting both in control. Unnikrishnan slowly develops a crush towards Gaadha, which gets transformed into a full-fledged passion, but Gaadha never accepts it. Unni befriends Maggie aunty and tries all ways to woo Gaadha.

Meanwhile, Unni and Peter finds out that Fernandez is in the city and is constantly in touch with Gaadha. The police commissioner is in all efforts to nab Fernandez. Unnikrishnan decides to use Gaadha to reach out to Fernandez. Gaadha reveals to Unni about the past of Fernandez, when he was a college professor, who was loved and cared for by the students. The sincere professor questioned the college authorities on many administration malpractices, which made him a dust in their eyes. The sons of the local [[Member of Indian Parliament|M.P]], who was corrupt and the police commissioner were punished by the professor, which led to a serious fracas in college and authorities were forced to take action on them under severe protests from students. In retaliation, they and their friends attacked professor Fernandez while he was traveling with a female student after a college event in the night. The girl was raped and later committed suicide and the professor was falsely convicted in the case.

Now, the professor is out of jail to avenge on it. Unnikrishnan tries to convince the professor with the help of Gaadha, but he fails to give up. Meanwhile, an elderly and wealthy businessman, who is a client of the ad agency, where Gaadha works, likes her and asks her to join him as his secretary abroad. Gaadha, who had by then developed a soft feeling towards Unni, lets him bring his mother to see her to fix their marriage. At the same time, the professor succeeds in killing the sons of the commissioner and the M.P, as well as their dishonest lawyer, who had fabricated the professor in the rape case. The Commissioner orders "shoot at sight" at Fernandez.

The professor contracts a [[mental illness]] and decides to plant a bomb at the city stadium, which might kill hundreds of civilians. Raghu parts ways with the professor as a result of the latter's deteriorating mental equilibrium, but is shot dead by him when he decides to foil his plan of bombing the stadium by revealing it to the police. Unnikrishnan asks Gaadha to make her father give up this heinous plan, but he refuses. That evening, Fernandez plants the bombs in the stadium, but the police team under Unnikrishnan corners him and takes him to the tower. The professor, despite repeated requests, refuses to explain how to defuse the bomb. But Unnikrishnan successfully defuses the bomb, thereby saving the lives of hundreds.

In the stampede and chaos that had ensued in the stadium amongst the spectators of the football match after the news of the bombs had been leaked, a revengeful Fernandez stabs the M.P to death, and is finally captured back by the police. Unnikrishnan safely and successfully rescues Gaadha from the police, who had captured her on the orders of the commissioner who wanted to take revenge from Fernandez for killing the former's son. To save her from the future actions of the commissioner, Unni and Gaadha decide to leave for [[Kerala]] together to get married. But due to their ill-fate, Gaadha, who actually wanted to join with Unni, could not join with him and decides to go with the old man to [[London]]. The film ends with both the cars with Gaadha and Unni, both lovers being unaware of each other's presence, stopping at a junction and when the signal turns green, they move to opposite roads.

==Synopsis==
Joji ([[Mohanlal]]) is a tourist guide in [[Ootacamund]], down on his luck. Nandini ([[Revathy]]), a tourist, who is mentally challenged, and a series of events make her presence intertwined with the lives of Joji and his friend Nischal ([[Jagathy Sreekumar]]). In the early part of the movie, hilarity ensues in their misguided attempts in getting rid of Nandini. However, they find out that she is an escaped mental patient who has a bounty on her safe return. When they find that the bounty has been increasing for a while, they decide to hide her for a while and claim the bounty when it gets big enough. They change her appearance by cutting her long tresses short. In time, they realize that things are not as they seem, and more complications are unraveled.

The initial plan for the film was set when Priyadarshan met "Goodknight" Mohan in an airport. The story was developed by Priyadarshan from a thought which came to his mind, about a mentally-ill mischievous girl who is saved by a poor guy. [[Mohanlal]], who is the usual choice of Priyadarshan was the protagonist in mind from the initial stage itself. [[Amala (actress)|Amala]] who was acting in Priyadarshan's [[Telugu cinema|Telugu film]] ''[[Nirnayam (1991 film)|Nirnayam]]'' at the time, was signed for the role of Nandini. Sreekumar, at the time, busy acting in multiple films at a time, gave his continuous dates for a long period for the first time. The film's [[Puja (Hinduism)|pooja]] function was held at Kothandapani Studio in Madras (now [[Chennai]]). The recording of songs started at the same day in the studio by [[S. P. [[Principal photography]] began in March 1991 in [[Ooty]], which was the main location where the film is set. The major part of the filming took place early in the morning because the mist lasted for a couple of hours only and the makers wanted to capitalise the mist-covered location. One of the initial scenes in the film, where Mohanlal and Thilakan takes morning walks, are shot in a secluded location in Ooty that was accidentally discovered by the team. They wanted the place to look classy and so the lamp post, a couple of chairs and all those fallen leaves. While filming the song "Ootyppattanam", Mohanlal escaped from what would have been a fatal injury. A sequence in the song was shot over the top of a moving train, where Mohanlal was standing opposite Jagathi and Revathy. There was a leaning electric line over the train passage, which the production team did not notice. While performing, all of a sudden, Sreekumar instructed Mohanlal to lie low, which he immediately obeyed without questioning. Revathi comes to the city from a small town in search of a job and to have a good life and as it is with everyone, her problem starts with finding a house. Shyam wants to become a singer. His parents are against his wish to become a singer. So he runs away from home and needs a shelter. Revathi accidentally meets Shyam, who too is in search of a house through the common milk-boy, Chikku. Chikku offers them both a house to rent if they are ready to pose as husband and wife in front of the landlord.

Supran, a miserly moneylender who doesn't trust his much younger wife Kousalya is their landlord. Revathi in search of a job, meets Ravunni Menon, a rich man who owns a bungalow in the heart of the city. Ravunni Menon stays with his wife whose name too is Revathi.

Gopalakrishnan needs some investment to come up in business and life. But to get started, he ends up having to rob his stingy father of money that the latter had hidden away out of sight of tax authorities. He is in search of a rich woman he can marry. Accidentally, Revathi meets Gopalakrishnan who has come to Ravunni Menon's house to repair the electronic equipment, which he had sold to him.

Gopalakrishnan thinks that Revathi is Ravunni Menon's daughter and her beauty enchants him. Revathi comes to know that there is a job in Gopalakrishnan's showroom and manages to get a job with him by playing along with his mistaken belief that she is Ravunni Menon's daughter. She is aided in this subterfuge by the fact that she shares the same name as Ravunni Menon's wife and all of his business interests are named after "Revathi".

After office hours, Gopalakrishnan drops Revathi outside Ravunni Menon's house, thinking it to be her house. She always enters the bungalow through the front gate and skips out through the gate itself after hiding in the garden until Gopalakrishnan drives away. Ravunni Menon's wife, Revathi, sees her coming and going out of the bungalow and starts suspecting her husband of an affair.

Gopalakrishnan frequently visits the bungalow to visit Revathi, who is never there, and Ravunni Menon thinks his wife is having an affair with Gopalakrishnan. Further her encounter with "[[Coconut|Thenga]]" Govindan Pillai makes the older Revathi believe that her husband has sons and daughters out of wedlock and, thus, is quite capable of another affair now.

Shyam in the meantime begins falling in love with Revathi and to make her jealous, he pretends that he is attracted to Kousalya, who in turn thinks this to be true and is ready to elope with him after robbing her miser husband.

In the climax, Gopalakrishnan sends a letter to Ravunni Menon that he is in love with Revathy, who considers it to for his wife. In the confusion Revathy reveals her identity. After a complicated fight, Revathy decides to spend the rest of her life with Shyam rather than with Gopalakrishnan, who wishes them luck. All ends good as Ravunni Menon and his wife Revathy decide to not separate, as they had planned earlier

==Plot==
K. R. Sathyanathan ([[Nedumudi Venu]]) is a typical middle-class man who has just retired. He wants to buy a plot of land in the city and move in with his wife ([[Lakshmi Ramakrishnan]]) and children: Uppilinathan alias Uppili ([[Karthik Kumar]]), Vishwanathan alias Vicha (Omar Lateef), and Sindhu (Justina). However, Uppili, who is a software engineer, has no interest in the house and is keen to leave India for New York, where he has obtained a job.

Sathyanathan buys the plot from "World Famous Properties", which is managed by Vijayakumar ([[Cochin Hanifa]]). When he goes to break stone to build his house, he finds a compound wall erected over his plot with the nameplate saying "Baby Properties". After numerous attempts to meet him, Sathyanathan finally meets Baby ([[Nassar (actor)|Nassar]]), who wants him to pay half of the amount paid for the plot to be paid to Baby in order to vacate the plot. The Sathyanathan family tries to think of multiple solutions and finally resorts to hiring thugs to break the compound at night. Sathyanathan is arrested the next morning.

Through all this, Uppili's attitude towards his father's problem changes when he sees how attached he is to the property. Uppili meets his travel agent named Asif Iqbal alias Asif Bhai ([[Bosskey]]) to cancel the US trip. Asif reveals that he was once Baby's assistant and was cheated by him of his ancestral land. Uppili, with the help of Asif, and Uppili's his girlfriend Amrutha ([[Piaa Bajpai]]), convinces Daddy ([[T. S. B. K. Moulee|Moulee]]), who is a stage actor and got 136 awards, to act as Varma, an NRI businessman from Dubai who has to India to sell a plot which actually belongs to the fisheries board of government. At last, Baby pays Varma, the advance amount (35 lakhs) for the fishery land and Nathan family uses that money to get their land.

The film ends with Sathyanathan's family living happily ever after. Baby's assistant Johnny ([[John Vijay]]) reveals that there is no man in the name of Varma and the land belongs to the state government. Baby acknowledges that he has been cheated and decides to cover it up to preserve his reputation.
