&#039;&#039;&#039;Gopinath Saha&#039;&#039;&#039; or &#039;&#039;&#039;Gopi Mohan Saha&#039;&#039;&#039; (16 December 1905 — 1 March 1924) was a [[Bengali people|Bengali]] activist for Indian independence (from [[British Raj|British rule]]) and member of the [[Indian independence movement]]&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;Kalikatha, Via Bypass - Page 30&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; On 12 January 1924, he attempted to assassinate [[Charles Tegart]], a leader in the fight against revolutionary movements&amp;lt;ref name= &amp;quot;Gupta&amp;quot;&amp;gt;{{cite journal |title=Defying Death: Nationalist Revolutionism in India, 1897-1938 |first=Amit Kumar |last=Gupta |journal=Social Scientist |volume=25 |issue=9/10 Date=Sep. - Oct. 1997 |pages=3–27 |jstor=3517678}} {{subscription required}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; and the then head of the Detective Department of [[Calcutta Police]]. Saha&#039;s attempt failed as he erroneously killed Ernest Day (born 1888), a white civilian who had gone there on official business.{{citation needed|date=January 2013}} Saha was arrested, tried and, on 1 March 1924, hanged.&amp;lt;ref name= &amp;quot;Gupta&amp;quot; /&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
