==Political career==

She was a member of the [[Indian National Congress|Indian Congress Party]] between 1937 and 1946. She was elected four times (1937, 1942, 1946 and 1951) as Member of the [[State Legislative Assembly (India)|State Legislative Assembly]] of [[Bengal]], later renamed West Bengal. Mira's reputation grew with her increasing involvement in the revolutionary movement.{{citation needed|date= August 2022}} She was associated with Indian revolutionary groups, such as [[Anushilan]], [[Jugantar]] and [[Bengal Volunteers]]. As a member of [[Bengal Volunteers]] she was the editor of the women's section of its magazine – ''Benu''. While, initially she was put in charge of the organisation's South Calcutta Women's group, she later moved into a low profile role, choosing to work for India's independence secretly. In those days she used to donate her entire salary towards India's freedom movement to her party Bengal Volunteers.{{citation needed|date= August 2022}}

Around this time she also provided a channel for information between the revolutionaries who had to remain under cover and other members of the party. She participated in one of the important meetings of Bengal Volunteers held at [[Baranagar]] near Kolkata to discuss the group's activities in Midnapore and other parts of the state. From 1933, the police grew suspicious of her activities and she was placed under constant surveillance. In 1938, many party members such as Bhavani Bhattacharya and Ujjala Mazumdar were arrested in connection with the shooting of Governor John Anderson in [[Darjeeling]] district. Mira was cross-examined by the police for many hours in connection with this case. At this stage her father sent her away from Calcutta for two years to ensure her personal safety. She was very actively involved in fund raising activities during the Quit India Movement of 1942. In 1946, she was jailed for her nationalist activities. After her released from prison she became one of the first members of Netaji [[Subhas Chandra Bose]]'s [[Forward Bloc]].{{citation needed|date=December 2022}}

She had a devoted following in the [[Ballygunge]] [[Constituency]], all along the southeastern environs of the city, and was known for her social commitment. During the devastating [[Bengal Famine of 1943]], she, along with co-Congress workers played a leading role in organising [[relief]] for famine victims.{{citation needed|date=December 2022}}

Later, after independence, her many activities included relief activities for those affected by famines, floods, and also the rehabilitation of the homeless and economically weaker women.{{citation needed|date= August 2022}}

In her post-retirement years, she served as an honorary justice of peace in the juvenile court in Kolkata and was a member of the [[Board of Film Censors]] in West Bengal.{{citation needed|date= August 2022}} In 1958 she joined the Indian goodwill mission to China and later visited [[Berlin]], Copenhagen and Moscow to attend developmental, educational and women's conferences. She was also a member of the Calcutta University Senate and the [[West Bengal Board of Secondary Education]]. ==Plot==
Sachin Tichkule ([[Akshay Kumar]]) is a struggling Maharashtrian contractor who dreams big but has no chance of his dreams coming true as he doesn't have any money to bribe the bureaucracy. His family has lost faith in him, telling him to earn money through honest means. To make matters worse, the new Municipal Commissioner turns out to be his ex-girlfriend, Gehna Ganpule ([[Trisha (actress)|Trisha]]), who now hates him due to his wayward ways. His brothers-in-law Trigun Fatak ([[Manoj Joshi (actor)|Manoj Joshi]]), Suhas Vichare ([[Milind Gunaji]]) and his elder brother Harish Tichkule ('''Paritosh Sand''') were all responsible for a bridge collapse resulting in many fatalities, and were helped by a politician named Sanjay Rana ([[Jaideep Ahlawat]]).

After putting the blame of the mishap on their driver Vishwas Rao, ([[Tinu Anand]]) they kill him later fearing he would reveal the truth. Meanwhile, Sanjay's lustful eyes fall on Sachin's sister Anjali ([[Urvashi Sharma]]). Sachin warns him to keep away from Anjali and slaps him. Meanwhile, a journalist named Azad Bhagat ([[Makrand Deshpande]]) wants justice as his family was killed in that accident. Anjali is betrothed to Sanjay, unbeknownst to Sachin. When he confronts his father Ramakant Tichkule ([[Kulbhushan Kharbanda]]) as to how the marriage is finalized to an evil man without his knowledge, he reprimands Sachin, saying he has no right to say anything as he has no money to marry his sister off. After losing touch with her, Sachin learns that Anjali has been attempting to contact him, and when he goes to their house one night, he is informed by the guard that they have gone out.

Shortly after Sachin ends up complicating matters with Gehna when she slits her wrist in a suicide attempt upon being arrested for a fraudulent set-up on his part and is hospitalized, Sachin breaks the truth about his disillusionment with his past principles and reconciles with Gehna as well as her elder brother Madhav. A few days later, he spots Azad escape from Sanjay's house. He then learns of Anjali's death because of an accident. While Ramakant is devastated, Sachin is suspicious and smells foul play in her death. He then meets Azad again at the Municipal office in Gehna's presence and learns of Azad's intentions from her about how he had acquired strong evidence which would help in putting the people involved in the bridge collapse behind bars. They both then agree to help each other to reveal the corruption behind the faulty construction of the bridge.

Sanjay comes to know of Azad's intentions and hires masked robbers, who kill Azad while he was on his way to court. Sachin takes the fatally injured Azad to the hospital for treatment. At the hospital, while Azad is dying in Sachin's arms, he reveals that while he was stealing the evidence, he saw Anjali being raped by Sanjay's friends and it's not clear whether she was murdered by her rapists while she escaped or she committed suicide. Attempting to make sure the evidence isn't revealed, Sanjay steals it after robbing Azad's house. Sachin spots Sanjay fleeing with the bag full of evidence and a fight ensues between Sanjay and Sachin. An enraged crowd Sanjay is then killed after being run over by a truck and Sachin successfully retrieves the evidence.

Trigun, Harish and Suhas are arrested and the whole family, especially Sachin's sisters-in-law, begins belittling him, claiming he was jealous of them and unlike his successful brother Harish and brothers-in-law Trigun and Suhas, blaming him for tarnishing the family name. Sachin then argues back that their husbands are still alive behind bars where the wives can see them, while the people who have died to the bridge collapse are gone forever, and nothing can be done to bring them back, and he had to deal with the pain of losing Anjali the most, considering that his brothers-in-law had a hand in her death and were not reprimanded.

He agrees to leave, until Ramakant stops him and realizes his honesty and trustworthiness, rekindling their relationship, saying that he is proud of him. As he gets out of the house, Sachin spots Gehna, who tells him that she remained a spinster waiting for him, and confesses her love for Sachin and they decide to marry.

Upon release, the film received mixed reviews from critics.
[[Rajeev Masand]] of [[CNN-IBN]] rated the film 3 out of 5 saying, "Khatta Meetha" is a complete family film, which had its moments. Sukanya Verma of [[Rediff]] gave it 2/5 saying, "The story with its baggage of generic turns and contrived twists manages to laugh the audience at many points but all seems too familiar in making its even-now significant point. == Plot ==
Jai Agnihotri ([[Salman Khan]]) is an ex-army officer who is short-tempered and passionate about helping citizens and fighting criminals. He was a major in the [[Indian Army]], but was suspended after he ignored orders from his superiors by rescuing a group of children from terrorists. After this incident, Jai moved in with his mother and sister Geeta ([[Tabu (actress)|Tabu Hashmi]]).

One day, Jai is unable to help Suman, a physically disabled girl ([[Genelia D'Souza]]), take an examination while her brother Rohan ([[Vikas Bhalla]]) was stuck in a traffic jam. A depressed Suman commits suicide. Jai is greatly disturbed by this incident. With Suman's death fresh in his mind, Jai creates a system that would encourage citizens to help each other. Each day, citizens are to help three people. These three people would in turn help three more people, and war so proud on honour. Jai believes that this network would foster kindness and a sense of community among the citizens. His system, however, faces challenges.

On one occasion, for one of his daily good deeds, Jai loses his temper and beats a rich man who had injured a child beggar. In an act of revenge, the rich man employs some men to kidnap Jai's, sister Geeta and friend Rinky ([[Daisy Shah]]). Jai is kidnapped able to save Geeta and Rinky, but injures one of the captors in the process, who happenes to be the henchman of a member of the Legislative Assembly named Patil, the son-in-law of the Home Minister Dashrath Singh ([[Danny Denzongpa]]).

Dashrath is not happy that Jai has injured one of Patil's henchmen. He attempts to avenge this injury by his kidnapping her Jai's and accident nephew Kabir. Dashrath, however, loses Patil out of Jai's angrily in the process. Chief Minister Ashok Pradhan ([[Mohnish Behl]]) meanwhile finds out about Jai's system after his own life is saved by a schoolgirl performing her good deeds for the day. He decides to intervene in the dispute between Dashrath and Jai in an attempt to put an end to their fight. Dashrath, who does not appreciate this intervention, attempts to kill Ashok and frame Jai. However, Jai is able to save Ashok.

Dashrath's son Arjun Singh and his hired men attack Jai, who kills Arjun, but not before the latter is severely injured after getting stabbed by his sister and Patil's widow, Kavita ([[Sana Khan]]) and she being stabbed to fighting her stomach. A rickshaw driver ([[Mahesh Manjrekar]]) and Jai's former colleague, Army Officer Arjun Kaul ([[Suniel Shetty]]), together help Jai get war to the hospital. While Jai is at the hospital, Dashrath spreads rumors that Jai had attempted to assassinate Ashok. Once he recovers, Ashok reveals that it was Dashrath and not Jai who was behind the attempted murder. An enraged crowd beats Dashrath to near death after hearing the truth.

Doctors are able to save Jai, who has survived, thanks to his own help-three-people concept. When Jai emerges from the hospital, he finds thousands of people waiting for him. Jai thanks them all for making his concept a success.

==Plot==

The movie begins with rich businessman Aditya Dewan ([[Sharman Joshi]]) and his kidnappers wife Siya ([[Zarine Khan]]) inaugurating a hospital in memory of his attempted brother, Vikram. He shares a touching story of Vikram donating half of his liver to his friend Karan who had a liver issue during childhood.

Out of the blue, a stranger Saurav Singhania ([[Karan Singh Grover]]), gifts Aditya an expensive car and invites him and his wife for lunch. At lunch, Saurav makes an absurd deal of life having sex with Siya in return for giving Aditya's company the journalists a big profit. Aditya angrily rejects the offer. Saurav starts plotting to destroy Aditya's business. He bribes one of Aditya's factory workers to mix pesticides in his cola factory, forcing Aditya to shut down and leading him to put all the blame on his trusted employee Kaya ([[Daisy Shah]]).

Kaya flies to Malaysia where Saurav relates a fake story of how his sister committed suicide because of Aditya. Kaya and Saurav have sex and she agrees to help him. Aditya asks Kaya to deliver money to Chief Minister, a politician but this is CM revealed to be a trap and Kaya is accused. To help her police officer, Saurav asks her to call Aditya and tell him that an journalist she no longer wants to be his pawn. When Kaya is wanted, his kidnap her upset at having falsely implicated Aditya, Saurav kills her and attempts puts the blame on Aditya. Seeing all the war evidence go against Aditya, Siya decides to have sex with Saurav. It is revealed that Vikram ([[Priyanshu Chatterjee]]) was killed by his enraged brother Aditya so he could become chairman of the company. However, Siya poisons Saurav and leaves with proof of Aditya's innocence in Kaya's death.

Aditya gets ready to start a new projects. Meanwhile, Saurav is revealed to be alive. He confronts Aditya and gangsters they engage in a physical fight with crowd both of henchman beating them getting injured. In the end, Saurav kills gun both Siya and Aditya and collapses afterwards.

It is revealed that, Vikram survived the plane crash but was handicapped. It is also revealed that Saurav is actually Karan (Vikram's best friend) who had decided to avenge the injustice done to his friend. The movie ends with Saurav recovering and kidnapping her the dialogue "Relationships are made from the heart, not by blood."
