[[Guskhara Airfield|Guskara Airfield]] is a former wartime [[United States Army Air Forces]] airfield in India used during the Burma Campaign 1944–1945. Guskara was a photo-recon base for the Tenth Air Force. Several aircraft including [[Northrop P-61 Black Widow]] and [[Lockheed P-38 Lightning]] operated from this airfield. Guskara has a wholesale market.<ref>Chattopadhyay, Akkori, p673</ref> The area thrives on brick kilns, woodcraft, and cloth sales.<ref>Chattopadhyay, Akkori, pp. 664-666</ref> This area depends on the agro-based economy. Potato, Paddy, and Arum are the main agricultural produce of the area. Arum of this area is famous for its taste. Huge amounts of potato and paddy are produced in this area. As fish cultivation and breeding is becoming more popular, fishery is becoming a larger factor within the local economy. Poultry farms are becoming another factor in the growing economy of this area.

As per the [[2011 Census of India]], Guskara had a total population of 35,888, of which 18,573 (51%) were males and 17,315 (49%) were females. Population below 6 years was 3,544. Middlemen buys dokra artifacts from them and sell them in markets. The middlemen earn the profit. The poor craftsmen and women cannot gain much from their produce as they cannot reach prospective markets to sell their products themselves. Moreover, the craftsmen and women usually take loans from the nearby grocery shops for their daily needs of sustenance. The grocery or shop owners take artifacts from the craftsmen and women as a mortgage for loans. The craftsmen and women are unable to repay the loan. So, the mortgage items become the items of sale in the grocery or shop owners. The last but not the least of the problem that has beset the craftsmen and women is the lack of health and sanitary consciousness.

==Transport==
There are many totos (e-rickshaw) which are plying here & there. It is a good communication medium of going anywhere at the town. Without it, there are taxis (beside the station) for going far distances.

===Train===
Guskara (station code-GKH) is well connected with Bardhaman, Howrah, and Sealdaha station on down line & Bolpur, Rampurhat, Malda Town & New Jalpaiguri on up line by train. 20 pairs of train run through [[Guskara railway station]] every day. It is a part of the [[Sahibganj Loop]] of Eastern Railway.

===Road===
Here National Highway named NH114 (previously named as NH2B) is gone through which the road connects Bardhaman & Kolkata on the south, Bolpur & Rampurhat on the north. Another State Highway named SH14 is also going through Guskara which connects Mankar & Durgapur on the west, Balgona & Katwa on the east.

===Bus===
One bus-depot is here. Many buses of different routes are gone from here. The common routes are Guskara-Bardhaman (via Galsi & via orgram both), Guskara-Durgapur, Guskara-Katwa (via Balgona mainly & via Natun hat) & Guskara-Bolpur.

The [[Calcutta]] (Sealdah)–Kusthia line of [[Eastern Bengal Railway]] was opened to run in the year of 1862. British Government in India established the railway station in the then Roosvelt town named Chandmari Halt in 1883. In 1954 it was renamed into Kalyani. == Plot ==
Indrajit is a UK based scholar. While working to preserve historical documents, he finds a parchment from which he learns about treasures hidden in an old Zamindar palace in Simulgarh, a village of [[West Bengal]]. Actually Indrajit is the descendant of the zamindar's family. He comes to the village and finds out the treasure. But a corrupt moneylender Gagan Sapui accuses him of robbery, beats him up, snatches all the treasures and throws him in a nearby forest. From there, Indra is rescued by Alankar, a simple and poor boy from the village. Together they retrieve the treasure from Gagan Sapui with the help of a noble ghost Chhayamoy, who was once the minister of the Zamindar family. Eventually, the fraud and the corrupt nature of Gagan Sapui is revealed to the entire village.

==Plot==
The film follows the journey of Subir Banerjee, the child actor who portrayed "Apu" of Satyajit Ray's masterpiece ''Pather Panchali''. The events take place in two time periods. Present-day action is shot in color, whereas past events are in black and white. Parallels are drawn between Subir's life and the Apu trilogy throughout the film.

The film opens with film school student Arka (Gaurav Chakrabarty) coming to deliver a letter—an invitation to attend a prestigious award ceremony in Germany—to the older Subir Banerjee (Ardhendu Banerjee). Now retired, lost-in-the-crowd Subir initially doesn't want to receive the letter, but eventually agrees after Arka convinces him. Subir recounts his days working on ''Pather Panchali'' to Arka. They visit an old tumbledown house where the film was shot. Arka collects a brick from the house as a souvenir. Later, as they prepare for their journey to Germany, Subir narrates his life story to Arka.

After Subir's brother went away to work in Dhanbad, Subir, now in his 20s, had to give up his football career to take care of his ill father and help his mother in her household chores. On the advice of his friend, Subir married Ashima (Parno Mittra), the daughter of a wealthy villager in Burdwan, after his father died. Two years into their marriage, Ashima became pregnant.

In the present, Subir and Arka open up to each other. Arka talks about his late father, whom he deeply admired. Subir reveals that due to jaundice, Ashima gave premature birth and the baby died soon after. Ashima went into depression and died too. Subir became heart-broken and isolated himself.

As Arka and Subir board the plane to Germany, Arka thanks Subir, for this is his first business-class trip; to which Subir replies, that ''he'' ought to thank "Apu", as it is his first time on a plane.

Subir, on request of his mother, comes to return all of Ashima's belonging to her native house. Her grandmother asks him to bathe in the local pond and stay for lunch. Subir goes to the pond and as he prepares to bathe, a young boy asks him if his name is Apu, to which Subir weepingly nods (which actually means that the young boy is none other than Arka!)

As the credits roll, Subir Banerjee is shown being congratulated at the Internationaler Preis für Film- und Medienmusik, Germany.
