== Plot ==
Shubhra arrives at Soham's (Ashutosh Patki) residence to inform his family about their relationship. As Asawari enjoys Chef Abhijeet Raje's cookery TV Show named Swad Aswad. Shubhra approaches her to inform Asawari about her and Soham's decision to marry. Soham's paternal grandfather is disappointed with his register marriage. After the marriage of Soham and Shubhra, the family celebrates their marriage party in Abhijeet Raje's restaurant.
 
The chef Abhijeet Raje notices Asawari and falls in love with her. Abhijeet insists Asawari to teach him to prepare Gharge. Soham, his Aajoba and Shubhra enjoy the dessert Creme Brulee after dinner. Later, Aajoba blames his illness on the food at the restaurant. Abhijeet decides to go Asawari's house to learn the recipe of Gharge. Abhijeet tries to appease Aajoba. Karkhanis (neighbour of Asawari) takes Aajoba to his house. Due to Soham's objection, Asawari refuses to teach Abhijeet the recipe of Gharge.
 
Pradnya (daughter-in-law of Karkhanis) lies to Abhijeet about her preparing the Gharge. The incident at Pradnya's house makes Asawari restless. Pradnya takes Abhijeet's number from Asawari and invites him to her house to learn the recipe of Gharge. Taking an advantage of this opportunity, she invites the neighbours as well. After all, Pradnya fails to make Gharge. So, Asawari makes Gharge at her home. Everyone starts to praise Asawari. Abhijeet expresses his gratitude to Asawari and invites her to his restaurant. Pradnya gets jealous on seeing Asawari being praised. Later, not invited Pradnya goes to the Abhi's Kitchen. After few days, Maddy (Manager of Abhi's Kitchen & friend of Abhijeet) visits Asawari's house to give her Cheque for recipe of Gharge and calls Abhijeet to inform him about Asawari's birthday. While on her way to Market, every passer-by gives Asawari a rose which surprises her. Later, much to her delight, Abhijeet meets her and sing for her.

The confusion further increases when Abhijeet talks to Asawari, but she misunderstands him to be talking about the royalty payments. Asawari gets teary-eyed while talking to Maddy about Abhijeet and Maddy's marriage. Abhijeet gets shocked on learning that his marriage is fixed with Maddy. On seeing an upset Asawari, Abhijeet tries to talk to her, but she refuses to listen to him. After few hours Abhijeet goes to the Asawari's house and explains the misunderstanding about the marriage to Maddy. After discussing the matter in detail, they decide against getting married.

Abhijeet learns that Maddy is responsible for the misunderstanding. When Abhijeet sits alone in the dark in his restaurant in Diwali, then Asawari brings lamps. Elated, he gifts her a Saree. Shubhra insists Asawari to wear the Saree gifted by Abhijeet. Later, Aajoba rebukes Asawari on seeing her decked up in a new Saree and told to give it to Pradnya.

Later, he gets shocked on seeing the prospective groom brought by Karkhanis. Asawari rejoices on seeing Abhijit but Aajoba rejects his proposal. When a prospective groom, Katekor, comes to see Asawari, Soham is startled to see the money in his bag. As Katekor lectures Shubhra, she gives him a befitting reply. Infuriated due to Katekor eyeing Asawari in a wrong way, Shubhra takes Asawari away from him. When Abhijit comes to Asawari's house, Aajoba and Katekor insult him. Shubhra, however, arranges for Abhijit and Asawari to meet in private. A distressed Shubhra shares her concern with Abhijit. Later, Abhijit gets puzzled when Asawari comes to his restaurant with Katekor. On realising that Katekor has ordered a single dish of Asawari's choice, Abhijit comes up with an idea. Asawari shares her inner turmoil with Abhijit. On seeing Asawari's plight, Shubhra asks Soham to talk to Aajoba. Later, Asavari tells her decision directly to Katekor but his conversation with Aajoba after that leaves her shocked. Katekor brings a ring for his engagement with Asawari and tells Aajoba to pick a date. Shubhra comes up with a plan as Asawari does not want to go out with Katekor. Later, when Katekor takes Asawari to a secluded place, Abhijit comes there. Everyone goes to Pradnya's house as Asawari's house gets locked. Aajoba scolds Asawari when Katekor complains to him. Shubhra video-calls Abhijit to pacify a crying Asawari. When Abhijit brings a smile on Asawari's face, Katekor calls her. Asawari and Shubhra go out with Katekor to shop for the engagement. There, Shubhra comes up with a plan to arrange for Asawari and Abhijit to meet and informs Abhijit about it. Later, Shubhra informs Katekor that she is going to get Abhijit and Asawari married. Shubhra urges Abhijit and Asawari to get married immediately. Meanwhile, Katekor heads towards the marriage register office with Maddy. On learning the truth there, he goes to Asawari's house. Later, Shubhra outsmarts Katekor and foils his plan. Shubhra informs Katekor's decision about the engagement to Abhijit. Abhijit tries to persuade Aajoba but in vain. Later, Shubhra comes up with a new plan. The next day, when Katekor comes home for the engagement, Shubhra argues with Soham. On the occasion of Sankrant, Shubhra gives a promise to Asawari. Later, Abhijit comes to Asawari's house. After listening to Aajoba's decision, Abhijit decides to part ways with them forever. Shubhra urges Aajoba to stop Abhijit. Aajoba expresses his feelings before Abhijit and the others, and takes an important decision regarding Asawari and Abhijit's relationship. However, a furious Soham questions him. Aggabai Sasubai (translation: Oh Mine Mother-In-Law) is an Indian Marathi-language television show that aired on Zee Marathi from 22 July 2019 to 13 March 2021 in 432 episodes altogether. Directed by Ajay Mayekar and Jayant Pawar, produced by Sunil Bhosle under the production banner of Someel Creations and distributed by Zee Entertainment Enterprises, the show stars an ensemble cast of Girish Oak, Nivedita Joshi Saraf, Ashutosh Patki, Tejashree Pradhan, Ravi Patwardhan, Mohan Joshi, Bhakti Ratnaparkhi, Sanjeevani Sathe and Arun Mohre and is currently available online on ZEE5.

Synopsis[edit]

Aggabai Sasubai is the story of Asavari Kulkarni (Nivedita Joshi Saraf), a reclusive, loving, caring and selfless widow, who tragically lost her husband at a young age and single-handedly raised her son, Soham (Ashutosh Patki), in addition with looking after the health of her elderly, authoritative father-in-law, Dattatray (Ravi Patwardhan / Mohan Joshi), also known as Aajoba. She leads a simple middle-class life with them both until Soham gets married to his long-time girlfriend, Shubhra (Tejashree Pradhan). Soham and Shubhra's marriage party is held at the restaurant run by Chef Abhijeet Raje (Girish Oak), an upper-class celebrity chef, whose daily cookery show on the TV is Asavari's favourite. When he meets her at his restaurant, Abhijeet falls in love with Asavari and asks her to teach him prepare a certain recipe made from pumpkin.

Impressed by the dish, Abhijeet sends his restaurant manager, Mandodari Parab (Bhakti Ratnaparkhi), also known as Maddy, to the Kulkarni residence with a cheque for Asavari as royalty payment for the pumpkin recipe. However, due to a misunderstanding, Abhijeet's marriage is fixed with Maddy, but Asavari's daughter-in-law, Shubhra, who wishes for her mother-in-law's happiness, meets Abhijeet and brings out the truth that he loves Asavari. Eventually, Abhijeet proposes to Asavari and they decide to get married, but both Soham and Aajoba disapprove of Asavari getting remarried, and attempt to spoil Abhijeet and Asavari's relationship with the provocation of the Kulkarnis' jealous neighbour, Pradnya Karkhanis (Sanjeevani Sathe). What happens next? Do Abhijeet and Asavari get married?   • Tejashree Pradhan as Shubhra Kamat Kulkarni; She is Soham's lover-turned-wife, Asavari's biological daughter-in-law, Abhijeet's stepdaughter-in-law and Aajoba's biological granddaughter-in-law. She is a bold and straightforward working woman.
  • Ravi Patwardhan / Mohan Joshi as Dattatray Kulkarni (a.k.a. Aajoba); He is Asavari's biological father-in-law, Abhijeet's stepfather-in-law, Soham's biological grandfather, Shubhra's biological grandfather-in-law and Karkhanis Kaka's childhood friend. He is the old-fashioned and conservative patriarch of the Kulkarni family.
  • Bhakti Ratnaparkhi as Mandodari Parab (a.k.a. Maddy); She is Abhijeet's restaurant manager and friend. She is very loyal and has a great sense of humour.
  • Sanjeevani Sathe as Pradnya Karkhanis; She is the Kulkarnis' neighbour, Soham's friend and Karkhanis Kaka and Kaku's daughter-in-law. She is a jealous, unkind and egotistical woman.
  • Arun Mohre as Vidyadhar Karkhanis (a.k.a. Kaka); He is Karkhanis Kaku's husband, Pradnya's father-in-law and Aajoba's childhood friend.

Casting[edit]

The show starred Girish Oak, Nivedita Saraf, Tejashree Pradhan, Ashutosh Patki and Ravi Patwardhan. In January 2021, Mohan Joshi replaced Ravi Patwardhan due to the latter's demise in December 2020.[1][2]

Filming[edit]

The series is mainly filmed at Thane. Abhi's Kitchen is located at Ghodbunder Road, Thane. Some of the series outdoor shoots were done near Thane Noble Pharma, Thane.[3] The wedding track of Abhijeet and Asavari was shot in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Abhijeet and Asavari's honeymoon scene was shot in Jaipur, Rajasthan.[4]

Spin-off[edit]

Due to the success of Aggabai Sasubai, the makers replaced it with the spin-off of the series titled Aggabai Sunbai. The promo of the show was launched on 21 February 2021 and replaced the parent show from 15 March 2021 at same time. Nivedita Saraf, Girish Oak and Mohan Joshi reprised their respective roles as Asavari, Abhijeet Raje and Aajoba while Uma Pendharkar has replaced Tejashree Pradhan as Shubhra and Adwait Dadarkar replaced Ashutosh Patki as Soham Kulkarni.[5]
